A UK hip-hop music video I directed as part of a creative brief in November of 2018. We were able to create this video on a a production budget of under £500.
The concept was a simple one that we intended to execute well (a key method, I believe and has been demonstrated many a time, to creating a strong music video under tight screen-time constraints). Circular/Cyclical narrative structure has always interested me in TV and film; this idea that through one way or another, life tends to bring us back to the places we started.
The song itself oozes themes of youth, exploration, love, sex and celebration. Being young is a wonderful and confusing time in everyone's life; a period where individuals are constantly reminded to enjoy themselves due to their age and the fact that "it'll all be over soon". This "race against time", siezing the moment mentaility is what really spoke to me through the song and this was the mood and message I desired to emulate through the visual/narrative elements in the video.
Working with the artist, Ollie, he and I were able to develop a concept where we combined the words and subject matter of his song with the structure that I had intended for the video to create something we were both very happy with. It was a pleasure, as always, directing something in collaboration with such a strong team of creatives to create something we hope people will enjoy and share with others.
