Mamiko Dís is an Icelandic/Japanese musician born and raised in Reykjavik, Iceland. Her father is Icelandic and her mother Japanese. She's a classically trained pianist with a B.A.-degree in musical composition, but has also great passion for making pop-music and is currently studying jazz-piano. In November 2014 she published her first album, "Ljóðin um veginn / 往く途の詩". It's a concept-album based on ten Icelandic poems by Kristján Hreinsson. She had eight of these ten poems translated to Japanese and sings them both in Icelandic and Japanese, referring to her mixed nationality. It's very important to her to hold on to her Japanese roots, but she's very fond of anime and grew up watching video-tapes of anime from the 80's. Her pop-music is very unique and beautiful. It has interesting electronic-percussion and obvious classical elements. She sings about important things in life that many people relate to, such as friendship, optimism, truth telling and gratefulness.
