Bio – Nicole Alexander

Nicole Alexander defined herself as a Creative Director/Producer with her controversial, multi-media Helpmann-award winning stage production of Dead Man Walking written by Terrence McNally. She recently collaborated again with Terrence as a Director on a screen adaptation of Master Class based on his Maria Callas play, and has continued to successfully transition into the scripted arena as an “exciting new talent to watch”.

Nicole is an Australian transplant to America by way of NYU’s film program and has worked as an award-winning director, producer, cinematographer, and editor across the film & television, live event, music, and new media platforms. As a former classically trained opera singer at the Sydney Conservatorium, music and sound design are at the core of all her storytelling – her skills as a musician translating into her signature directing and editing style.

Alexander spent several formative years as a Director/Creative-Producer at MTV and 1iota, and in 2016 she set up her solo production venture ‘Hashtag, You’re It’, where she creates multi-platform content for networks, production houses, agencies, brands and artists. In addition to assisting with the launch of Instagram’s own video channel, she has directed and produced for YouTube, Comedy Central, NBC-Universal, ABC, Getty Images, iHeart Radio, TLC, Ford, BMW, Red Bull, Google, Mastercard, to name a few and a multitude of high profiled musicians including DJ Khaled and Katy Perry. Nicole successfully directed 4 x TVCs and the live stream for iHeartRadio and Snapchat’s reveal of the new Ford EcoSport which became one of the most successful and most socially shared product launches of all time. She is the creative strategist behind many a successful brand campaign.

During the Covid-pandemic, she proved herself to be a true ‘one-women’ band – creating, directing, producing, editing and shooting both the 2020 and 2021 Spotlight Grand Finale documentary specials for PBS hosted by Josh Groban, The Inside Look series for The Music Center featuring Misty Copeland and The Blue Ribbon Children’s Festival.

She is no stranger to filmmaking, having produced some of the largest TV tentpole events including The Comedy Awards, Guys Choice Awards, Eddie Murphy: One Night Only and TV Land Awards for Viacom. She is a recipient of over 60 film festival awards and is currently developing a number of scripted and non scripted projects including The Fixer, Dead Man Warbling, Managing Up, What Next and Tiger Fish.

Nicole was published as an author for the first time in the book Postcards from Tomorrow. She is currently writing her first novel.
