Description 2

My name is Nnamdi Simon, and I am a writer, director, and editor living in Jersey City, NJ. As a filmmaker, my vision is to create stories that reflect the social issues of our times but do so in a comedic way. I have always been interested in the intersection of race and the characters representing people who look like me. As a filmmaker, I bring a whimsical style, but never afraid to be provocative and push boundaries. My cultural experiences have shaped my vision of the world and offered a diverse palette of ideas. I have always had a great deal of imagination, but it wasn’t until university that I developed my passion for filmmaking. I graduated with my M.F.A  from New Jersey City University,  and instead of going into academics, I plunged into the world of music videos, directing for hip-hop and R&B artists in the New York music scene. I have also produced my own short films and am writing my first feature script, a comedic murder mystery dealing with the hypocrisies of contemporary liberalism. My influences are filmmakers such as Jordan Peele, Quentin Tarantino, and Jean-Luc Godard. I attribute much of my style as a director to them because they are visionary storytellers who thought outside the convention of the box thinking. I aim to follow in their footsteps as a filmmaker and believe in creating entertainment that highlights marginalized communities.
