The words ‘can’t do that’ are an alien concept to Neil Shelby Long and although said with tongue firmly in cheek, his Twitter account describes him as ‘The World’s Best One Armed Photographer’

As you can imagine, growing up in times of a lot less accessibility and understanding, Neil has heard the term, "I don’t think you can do that" quite a lot. He is as derisory of the statement now as he was then.

Neil is a self confessed people watcher. It’s no surprise then, that the majority of his work contains people as either the primary subject or as an integral part of the shot.

So who is Neil Shelby Long, the world's greatest one armed photographer? There are two stories as to how Neil only has one arm. The concise and frankly unimaginative version is that he was born like it. The one that gets told to new acquaintances (usually attractive female ones), is that he lost it in a shark attack off the coast of Australia. Initially repelled by a swift punch to the nose, the shark, unfortunately, saw the next left uppercut coming. There are only two flaws to this story. 1st, Neil is right handed and 2nd, Neil has never been to Australia.

Neil is always as smart as a carrot, as cunning as a fox and as faithful as a chocolate labrador called Bertie. His favorite colour is black. He wishes he could be more fashionable, but usually snorts dismissively at the fashion pages of the Sunday supplements. He doesn't do weddings.

"For me, photography and video are a vocation, a calling, it's not a 9 - 5 job and it's never a chore. I truly believe I’m the luckiest man on earth. I get to take photographs or shoot video and people pay me to do it. Doing the thing I love for a living is an honour that I’m grateful for every day and I see it as my duty to repay my clients by being on a continual learning curve. Never standing still, never becoming stagnant."
