Good Luck, Prom King

I was contacted by Shyland to produce some artwork for his latest EP release 'Good Luck, Prom King.' Shyland sent me the music along with his discription of the narrative and subject of his work:

'Good Luck, Prom King' is a coming of age story about being young, black and fast in american with songs dealing with love, loneliness, racism, death, and more. The albums Narrative takes place in a car representing how fast life can be and how fast it can come to an end.

I loved this. I knew the imagery had to be complex to commuincate that struggle, and I knew that this could be met with a simple typographic expression. For my outcome, I used several images of front P.O.V's in various cars, and overlayed them with detailed close ups of flowers. In short, I wanted to the art to find beauty amongst the darkness - much like the EP's narrative.

It was great to have worked with Shyland on what was a really lovely and personal project.
