Gray Dawn Album Package Concept

I created this concept as a portfolio piece, first brainstorming a name for the band and album title, Gray Dawn, and then challenging myself to produce a package around that name and theme.

Gray Dawn's music is brooding downtempo, electronic trip hop in the style of Massive Attack, Portishead, or Sneaker Pimps. I wanted the album art to reflect that mood with gloomy grey skies and trees in the grip of winter's cold. But, I added a bright pinkish orange to add some visual dissonance to that feel and create focal points for the band/album name and band logo on the back cover.

The record label features the sun from the front cover, saving the information for the B side. The marbled grey vinyl references the cold, leafless trees see on the front and rear of the cover.

The inner sleeve is the same shocking pink, and provides space for lyrics and further legalise.

Gray Dawn's logo is a minimalistic sunrise, paired with Helvetica font to keep the feel as basic as possible.
