Artwork for Naji by komikamo

Having built a solid working relationship with R&B artist Naji and the Subtle Team management company in 2018, I was tasked again with creating the artwork for his final project of the year - Misfit. Unlike my work on his Act I & II series, where the concept was thought out and provided to me to create from, I was given free reign to create simply from what I felt from the music of this album.

The project covers themes of isolation, hope, distance, and trying to maintain confidence/positivity - all of this gave me the idea of having an abstract potrait of the artist, with pegs holding up his smile. This was to convey someone doing whatever they need to do for themselves to keep sane, and expressing that visibly to everyone closest around them.
