Creative Corner with Megan BurnsNovember 2020
Here's our recent chat with Megan to discuss her favourite campaigns in 2020 and talk about the overlaps between visual creativity and music.
I’m currently working on the new Palm Reader album Sleepless which is due out on the 27th November via Church Road Records. We have a pay per view launch event on the 23rd which we shot at St Edmunds Church in Rochdale. It's such an incredible historic building so we were very lucky to have been granted permission to use that as our location. I am also working on some very exciting things with Isolated Youth who are a brilliant new band from Sweden.
Creatively at the moment I’m loving I Mean Us. I stumbled upon this band by accident whilst at Zandari Festa in Seoul last year and I’m so pleased I did. Their music and aesthetics are so dreamy. I hope I get to see them again someday!
My all-time favourite music video is Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue's Where The Wild Roses Grow. I remember seeing it on TV as a kid and I was obsessed. It's so wonderfully dark and beautiful.
I’ve always loved the album art for Melvins Houdini.
Campaign of 2020
The best creative campaign this year has been the Deftones Adopt a dot campaign that accompanied the release of Ohms. Fans were encouraged to purchase one (or several) of the dots that made up the album artwork and all proceeds were donated to UC Davis Children’s Hospital and Crew Nation.
The most recent brand collaboration that caught my eye was Bob Vylan X Dr Martens. One of my new favourite bands and one of my all-time favourite brands. What’s not to love?
I wish I’d designed the artist logo for Mayhem. I tried scrawling this over my school books but never could master it. If I had designed it, I wouldn’t have that problem!
The one artist you should follow on Instagram is Mastodon. Their Cooking With Mastodon series is incredible.
The most iconic music photograph has to be Kurt Cobain by Stephen Sweet. This was one of the first posters to adorn my bedroom wall. He just looks so effortlessly cool.
