Description 2

I started my career studying Graphic Design at Brighton University, alongside which I developed a love of all things music and design related (captivated by labels and their vinyl delights; 4AD, DFA, Output, Lo, Transcopic). I then embarked on a 2-year stint in New York working for a small design studio, getting creative on a lot of jazz and world music record sleeves. I got to work on an Amadou & Mariam album called Dimanche À Bamako which opened my ears to a sound I didn’t know existed (I fell in love). I witnessed the first show by a new band called Grizzly Bear, and ended up helping their label on some design work for them too (fell in love with them as well). I was learning about music through design, and design through music.

Since then, I’ve spent a decade on the front-line working with pop musicians as an artist manager; developing their careers and making sure their visual identity was spot on (from creatively directing artwork to commissioning videos).

Working with musicians changed me as a designer – it made me consider much more than the aesthetic and audience of a project but made me think about how the design forms an integral part of the music – the visual element being the most important component after the music itself.

That’s why I set up It’s Wallo - a company that combines my long standing knowledge of how design and music are intricately linked, acquired through working in the music industry with a designers head on.
